There are so many beautiful places to do photos in San Luis Obispo County. A lot of those locations (like most beaches), look best about an hour before sunset. But Sweet Springs is different.
There are a few hidden gems on the Central Coast that look best at other times of the day.
Sweet Springs is one of my favorite locations for family portraits because of this. It is very flexible when it comes to ideal timing for photos. At certain times of the year, the sun can set as late as 8pm. This can make a sunset family portraits at the beach with little ones… very difficult.
Sweet Springs in Los Osos is a great alternative. Because of the shade provided by all the Eucalyptus trees, it actually looks the best about 2-4 hours after sunrise or before sunset. Giving us SO much more flexibility for planning around naps, moods, etc.
With beach locations, I prefer to photograph with the sun setting over the ocean, making sunset the Ideal time to do photos. With Sweet Springs Nature Preserve, it looks great both in the morning and the evening. It is my favorite morning location in the area.
This session was photographed about three hours before sunset. I send out an in depth guide with location suggestions, and photo tips and tricks to my clients to help them choose a location that works best for them. However, i’m always open to exploring new spots in the area if there is a place that is extra special to your family.
