This Morro Bay Rock maternity session was a dream. This spot in Morro Bay, is my favorite beach location. Which if you know the Central Coast, that is saying a lot. We have so many gorgeous beach locations to do portrait sessions at.
This spot is always beautiful whether its foggy or sunny, but this day was extra special with it being a warm (dare I say, almost hot) day. This location is gorgeous, but warm is not usually a word I would use to describe it. It can get quite cold with the winds from the ocean on these sand dunes, but not this night. It was perfect and warm.
When it comes to the time of day, the time just after sunrise or just before sunset provides soft, glowing light for portraits, and I recommend that we schedule around that so you can experience the beauty of golden hour! Depending on your location, my suggested timing will change for ideal lighting. Here’s a helpful rule of thumb—If it’s an area without a lot of shade, we may only start an hour before sunset. If it’s an area with ample shade, we will start two hours before sunset.
If it is sunny, this Morro Bay rock location is best within the hour before sunset, and about fifteen minutes after. Once the sun has gone down, there is a really beautiful even soft light that falls over everything. I also have a newborn photography studio In Los Osos, california (about 15 minutes away from Morro bay rock). If it is foggy, it is best about 2 hours before sunset due to the fog darkening the sky earlier in the day.
