Los Osos Newborn session with golden retriever

This Los Osos Newborn session with golden retriever, was so sweet. He stole the show and seemed very happy to be showing off his new little sister.

This family chose my 2nd newborn photography collection which includes:

Posed newborn session
3-hour newborn session in studio with 2+ outfits/scenes for the baby
30-minute family session in studio with parents and siblings (and in this case… dog 🙂

Our pet is a huge part of our family….

which is why I love when couples choose to incorporate pets into their session! I recommend planning for your pet to be at the first part of your session and then either dropping them off or having a friend take them home. We won’t use your pet in every single photo, so it’s also nice to have a friend available to take them home or for a walk/to the park if need be. Some dogs, (Like this one), are naturally very calm and happily relaxed with his owners during the portion of the session of only baby. If you have a puppy, or a dog with a bit more spirit and energy, they can become quite the distraction and deter us from getting those sweet sleepy photos if they are too loud.

Safety is also very important when it comes to newborn sessions that include pets. You know your dog’s demeanor and capability best. I require one adult right next to the dog/baby at all times while I am photographing them together to help ensure the baby’s safety. So keep this in mind, and bring along a friend if one of you aren’t able to bend over easily for this task. (Bringing a friend or family member can be fun anyways!)

If you’re going to bring a pet: I recommend exercising your pet before the session and bringing your pet’s favorite toy or treats! Depending on your pet’s fur type, it might also be a good idea to groom them before the shoot. We want everyone looking their best!
