This Avila Beach and Los Osos Engagement session was so sweet. It was during the spring time, when things are green at Sweet Springs Preserve in Los Osos, California.
Sweet Springs itself can look quite different in the late summer/fall when everything is rather dry. During that time there is a golden hue throughout the preserve, but in the spring there is green everywhere. Avila Beach is an excellent option for couples looking for an engagement session with a classic Beach feel. Many of the beaches along the Central coast have rocky terrain and pebble-like sand, but Avila reminds me of a beach in Malibu with its fine grain and light colored sand, and it’s slightly warmer weather. Many times Avila Beach will be warm and sunny when other beaches on the Coast are fogged in.
Engagement sessions can be planned anywhere from immediately following the proposal to just a few days before the wedding. The choice is yours! The Central Coast gives us such beautiful weather year round.
When it comes to the time of day, the time just after sunrise or just before sunset provides soft, glowing light for portraits, and I recommend that we schedule around that so you can experience the beauty of golden hour! Unless you’d prefer a morning time for scheduling purposes, I recommend that we start our session two hours before sunset. For the Oaks Reserve in Los Osos, this location is rather shady, so it is best within 2 or three hours before sunset and before it gets too dark.
For this Avila location, depending on the time of year, the sun sometimes dips behind the mountains much earlier than sunset. Because of this, I usually suggest we plan to meet at Avila 1-2 hours before sunset. But I am here to help guide you to the exact time we should meet based on the time of year you schedule your session.
