Avila Engagement session | Lindsey and Nick

This Avila Engagement session started in some vineyards.

Lindsey’s family own a winery in San Luis Obispo, called Filipponi Ranch. Filipponi is where Lindsey and Nick will be tying the knot later this year.

When going over possibilities for engagement session locations, I ask clients if they have a background they’ve been picturing. For Lindsey and Nick, they wanted to include vineyards as well as their love for the beach. The vineyards help represent her family’s multi-generational involvement in the wine industry here in San Luis Obispo county while Avila beach represented more of Lindsey and Nick’s relationship together.

Choosing a location for your engagement session does not have to be sentimental, but it’s fun when it is! I have a ton of gorgeous places to suggest here on the Central Coast. If you are looking to choose and don’t know where to start, I’m happy to send those your way. I’m always happy to brainstorm with you to come up with some locations that work for you two and uniquely represent you.

It is usually ideal for the first location to have some shade or cover from the bright sun, as we start the session about two hours before sunset. I like to end my sessions at your ideal location, so we get to photograph there during the magical “golden hour.” Golden hour is quite the buzz term nowadays, but it refers to the hour before sunset. It’s that pretty golden light that gives everyone a glow.

These two have been together since high school! I’m always mind blown (in the best way) when couples have weathered storms of growing up together and are still crazy about each other.

The ability to grow, change, and learn together is truly admirable. It will be so special to photograph Lindsey and Nick’s wedding this year.
